from We Die Young by Alice in Chains
I chose the above title line because yesterday, April 19, was the day that they found Layne Staley dead from an OD of heroin and coke in Seattle. He died on April 5, 2002, which is eerie in itself. That's the same day Kurt died, eight years after. Eerie. And sad too. Oh well. I've always been a huge AIC fan and don't plan to quit any time soon. I do remember where I was. I was sitting outside the Blue Note in Columbia, with some kids from my station. It was the annual KCOU Springfest concert. The Blue Note was the rainsite. It was pouring. This dude, Ryan, pulled me aside and said, "Layne Staley's dead." I was like "NOOOOO". I went immediately to my sanctuary, the metal bar down the street. I've never seen a 300 lb metalhead cry before, but the tears and the whiskey were flowing. AIC was on the jukebox. It was surreal. The lightning and thunder started hitting right after the opening notes of 'Rain When I Die'.
Oh well. Time for other stuff.
--Changed the topic for my final project in grad school. It's not due for a while. I just need to have part of it done to pass this one class. Leave it to me to change it two weeks before the damn thing is due. Oh well, I'm more comfortable with this topic.
--The Amityville Horror was better than I thought it was gonna be. Ryan Reynolds (Van Wilder) did really well in it.
--The nerd countdown has begun! 9 days until Yoda, Sparkamus Prime, and myself go see Hitchhiker's Guide. I can't wait. That book (along with Heller's Catch-22) was passed around amongst my college friends like it was a cheap whore.
--My uncle is in town. Can't wait to see him. I don't get to see him very much, as he lives in California.
I think that's it. This is a pretty boring blog entry. Oh well, thanks for reading.
